April 14th, 2016 – FWAHU Hosts the TAHU Small Group Specialist (SGS) Certification and Re Certification Course

Time: Certification and Re-certification class begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m., Regular Luncheon Meeting and Presentation \”What NAHU Can Do For You\” at 12:00 p.m., Certification class continues at 1:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

Price:

7:00a-4:00p “Small Employer Health Benefit Plan Specialty Cert”, Course #30527, 8 hrs.
FWAHU and TAHU Member Registration is $80 if pre-registered online ($90 at the door)
Non-Members is only $95 if pre-registered online ($105 at the door)

7:00a-12:00p “Small Employer Health Specialty Cert – An Update”, Course #87291, 5 hrs.
FWAHU and TAHU Member Registration is $50 if pre-registered online ($60 at the door)
Non-Members is only $65 if pre-registered online ($75 at the door)

Registration: Certification Course Registration begins at 6:30AM and the courses start at 7:00AM.
Certification Meetings include CE, Membership Luncheon Admission and Lunch Buffet.

TO QUALIFY TO RECEIVE THE DESIGNATION:

If licensed in Texas, the agent must be a member in good standing of TAHU. If licensed in another state, the agent must be a member in good standing of NAHU.

The agent must have completed the Texas Small Employer Health Benefit Plan Specialty Certification continuing education course, if a Texas agent, or hold one of the approved designations of Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC), Registered Health Underwriter (RHU) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) as specified in Texas statute SB79.

The agent must abide by all requirements of Texas Insurance Code Sec. 1501.351 (c) to \”offer and explain to a small employer on inquiry and request by the employer each health benefit plan established by the commissioner …

The agent must complete the required application and pay the required fee to TAHU. The initial designation fee is $100 and the renewal fee, per license period, is $50.

Designation as a Small Group Specialist will be given only to agents who have taken and passed the classroom examination of the required continuing education course presented by an instructor.

RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS: TDI requires that all agents who wish to maintain the Small Employer Health Benefit Plan Specialty Certification must complete in each reporting period following the reporting period in which the licensee completed the initial 8 hour certification course or qualified by designation (REBC, RHU or CEBS), at least 5 hours of department certified small employer health benefit plans continuing education. There is no examination required for the 5 hour course. TAHU is an approved provider (#32408) for the 5 hour continuing education course, \”Small Employer Health Specialty Certification-An Update\”, Course #87291, 5 credit hours. Once you have taken this renewal course, you may renew your SGS designation by completing an application and submitting the appropriate fee.

You may not use the SGS designation until the paperwork has been processed by TAHU\’s Executive Director, Kellie Merritt and you have received a confirmation email. Allow up to 60 days for processing.
